The Sound of Silence

Good Morning Friends!

Rally is over, the nights are getting cooler and we’re slipping into the next season. Are you ready for it? I’m half there. I do love cooler weather, crisp days and wearing more layers, but I’m not quite ready to relinquish summer! This limbo that is the last part of August has me appreciating the last dregs of summer.

We’ve had a few residual hot summer evenings lately and I’ve loved sitting on the porch until it’s dark (how did the days get so short suddenly??). When we bought our house in Lead a friend expressed how much she didn’t like how crowded it was in town, “The houses are almost stacked on top of each other!” It’s true on my street, but it’s one of the things I love about our quirky town! And weirdly even though we’re so close, because of the hills you never feel like you’re looking into each other’s windows. From our porch we can hear faint murmurs of conversation and peels of laughter while we’re all enjoying the shortening days outside. There’s a cozy sense of community having people separate but close, all squeezing the last life from summer before we blink and it’s over again.

Transitions are hard but also delightful, they help us remember we’re alive and moving along together.
