Trainloads of Grapes

Happy Thursday of a spectacularly beautiful week!

We’ve been enjoying the cheery sunny weather and balmy temperatures (40-50) with even nicer weather coming this weekend. It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago it was -20! Hopefully you’ll get to get out and enjoy it if you haven’t already!

Last week I wrote about the neighborhoods around town. My mom said she always refers to the “Top” (that area overlooking Kirk) as “Backside”… you can make your own decision on that. Another reader said I had forgotten Parkdale, the area up behind JDM Customs to Gold Run Park (the Mill Area). Someone else reminisced about when the Slovenians and Italians would bring trainloads of grapes to make wine every year.

I’m very happy to live in Lead now but it sure would be fun to just get to go for a day back in time to see things. If you enjoyed the Blue Fur Coat story in last year’s print newsletters then you’ll be happy to know that the book version is coming out soon! I’ve been loving getting to help work on the project and getting a glimpse into what it was like to grow up in 1960’s Lead. Stay tuned for more information about that coming in the next few months!

This week’s email is short because I’m swamped with projects and deadlines (sending the 2021-2022 Lead Magazine out the door this week!) but thanks as always for reading!
