Real Gritty Charm

Good Morning!

The Homestake Opera House is one of my favorite places in Lead. I even love that it’s kind of only half way restored. In a strange way, it helps us not take it for granted – and it gives it a dynamic quality that if it were just a big beautiful perfect building we might not really grasp. Plus, like most of Lead, it can be very special but never take itself too seriously, it can never be very pretentious or snobby. It is a real place, full of our town’s raw talent, grit, love and effort. In fact, a part of me kind of hopes that it’s never fully restored – because I love that raw quality so much – it is so much a part of it’s charm and beauty.

I feel lucky to have had the chance to be part of theater there, to attend events, to be a member and luckier still to live in a place where so many people had so much vision to build such a treasure.

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. – Winston Churchill
