Where The Home Folks Are

Good Morning!

What a fresh morning it is after that short rain burst. It wasn’t enough, but it was a wonderful relief from the blazing hot, smoke filled hazy days we’ve been having.

I read a quote this week that I loved: “As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness – just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.” -Laura Ingalls Wilder

Maybe it’s been having a kid or maybe it’s been this crazy year, but lately I’ve really been feeling grounded by these ideas. Life is so fleeting and when all is said and done it’s made primarily out of these small insignificant moments and times that can be so easy to miss. I feel especially glad to live in South Dakota, and even more thankful that I get to live in Lead with its very “common” everyday life, folks and beauty.

________Here’s what’s happening around town

Thursday-Sunday is Kool Deadwood Nites! I think personally this is my favorite event in Deadwood and I love the parade on Sunday morning! See the entire schedule of events here: https://www.deadwood.com/event/kool-deadwood-nites/

Thursday, 9/3 is United Way’s month of caring virtual kick-off event. Normally they do a day of volunteering but this year they’ve changed it up and will be doing a month of volunteering. You can see more details and information here: www.unitedwayblackhills.org

Friday, 9/4 at 4pm we’ll be doing a ribbon cutting for Jailhouse Taps on Siever Street under The Historic Town Hall Inn. If you can’t be here for their grand opening day on Saturday you won’t want to miss this!

Be sure to check out our schedule of events for Labor Day weekend as we prepare to celebrate GOLD CAMP JUBILEEwww.LeadMeThere.org/GoldCampJubilee

We’re still looking for parade entrants, as we really want to make our Labor Day Parade something to write home about! You can register on our website, or you can show up at line up on Monday 9/7 starting at 9am behind the high school.

Good to Know: Black Hills Energy has received reports from customers of attempted scam calls where the customer is told their bill is delinquent and service will be disconnected in 30 minutes unless they pay the caller. We urge customers with concerns about the identity of someone claiming to represent the company to call Black Hills Energy at 1-888-890-5554 to verify employment. Calling local law enforcement is also an option.
