Good Morning!
Have you noticed that Lead is improving? The tricky thing is that it all happens so slowly that you can’t really quite put your finger on it. So let’s take a moment to go down Main Street together and notice just a few of these small changes! As they say, “Every journey must begin with a single step.”
Several houses along the highway have recently gotten new siding and we see the Golden Hills hotel is still working on their giant remodel project with Rangel construction so we’re happy that’s inching forward.
Roundhouse Liquors is almost done with their giant expansion and it looks so nice! We’re hoping that someone will someday soon do something with the Roundhouse building (Prairie Berry North??)
If we go down Glendale, we pass the old Glover house and admire it’s new roof! Have you seen the beautiful flowers in all the baskets and planters around town? The little trailing vines really make me happy.
Shepherd of the Hills church right there on the corner just painted their sidewalk railings. These small improvements really show that people care about the town and their establishments.
The owners of the building just across from Alert Street just painted their window woodwork which is a big improvement!
TRL properties spent some time rehabbing their storefront across from Common Cents when West Main Antiques moved down into Miners & Merchants. And even the weird purple house/shop front is slowly improving – at least it’s not lavender anymore and the owners have some hollyhocks growing on the side.
Did you notice that Common Cents got a whole new concrete pad? The old one was terribly cracked. Small (but expensive) change but it definitely makes the gas station look nicer.
All in One Salon has done so much to make that building better. They’ve recently painted their salon window frames and have such cute flowers that match their colors. I love seeing when people take the time to really make things beautiful.
I’ve heard a rumor that there are big things coming in the big hole next to the Mother Lode building so we’ll all cross our fingers for something awesome that would connect the two parts of Main Street.
I’m excited to see Big Trout Deli continue to improve the old Odd Fellows building, have you seen the super fancy deck and stairs on the back of the building? I got to go explore the upstairs vacation rental spaces and they’re so beautiful!
Nick is hard at work to realize his dream of a makerspace in the two storefronts between Greenfield’s and Bob’s Silver Star. Something is happening in the Pizza place, but we all have yet to see what it is. I love that the ladies at the free store really take the time and effort to decorate the store windows with seasonal and holiday specific decor!
I’m so happy that Stampmill is back this summer, and I love seeing people enjoy their wonderful patio space. Have you been to Jailhouse Taps yet? They still are working to expand and finish the inside space but they have a fun little patio area and their beer is really tasty (and I don’t really like beer much!)
I can’t talk about everything that is happening along Main Street since we’d be here for hours, but I really hope that as you walk/drive around you start to try and notice what’s happening all around us ALL over town.
A step always seems so small and insignificant but it’s the only way forward. Thank you to everyone who takes these small steps to make our town more beautiful and more cared for.

Tonight, Thursday 8/20 – 5-7pm, We’ll have our last summer PIE SOCIAL out on the Davis Ring Patio! Come enjoy treats from Bloomers Flowers & Cakes, music by TJ Ellis and other refreshments! It doesn’t even feel close to being the end of summer with the hot hot weather we’ve been having, but we still want to be sure to enjoy these last months.

Friday, 8/21 – 12pm, History on the Lawn at the Adams House Museum. Join Deadwood historian and author Tom Griffith as he unravels some of history’s mysteries from his newest book. From the world’s largest mammoth grave to the legend of Lame Johnny’s $7.5 million in lost gold and the lingering mystery of the controversial Thoen Stone. These events are free to members and $5 for non members. Feel free to bring lunch and enjoy this summer’s last History on the Lawn.
Saturday, 8/22 – 10am-noon, The Gold Camp Players announce auditions for a Children’s Theatre Production of LM Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. Students K-12 are welcome to audition. Director Lindsey Lothrop encourages those interested in learning the technical side of theatre to attend as well. Enter the Opera House through the Julius Street entrance. Sunday, 8/23 – 2pm, The Homestake Opera House will host: “Tribute to the 100th anniversary of passage of the 19th Amendment”. Black Hill State University History professor Kelly Kirk will talk about the passage of the 19th Amendment. Back in 1920 the Opera house was the stage for several women’s suffrage events so it seems appropriate to honor that movement here again!
