Go Ahead and Try

Happy Day!

A few weeks ago at a city commission meeting a complex issue came up (what is was I can’t remember) but one of the commissioners asked, “What if we set a precedent that we later regret?” The mayor had a good come back, “We can always change it.”

My friend’s company is undergoing a massive reorganization and overhaul, but it’s all getting mired in doubt and stalling out because people are afraid of not getting it right from the start. My friend said as he told me about the situation, “You won’t. No way, no how! You just have to make a decision and commit, you can always adjust and change as you go.”

Starting a business or running a business can be hugely overwhelming. You’re always faced with big decisions, hard choices and the inability to see into the future. You can’t possibly know the best thing all the thing and you’re going to get it wrong. But you still have to move forward by choosing something. Don’t let the fear of making the wrong decision trap you, because you can always use that for learning, growing and information. I heard an awesome suggestion, “Treat life like a test case” If you are worried how something will turn out, try it out. You can always change your mind. It’s true that some decisions are harder to back out of, but for the most part 1) you won’t know until you try and 2) you can always do something differently. It’s your life, and your business or your job, and you can decide the future of both!

I’m super lucky to have a board and a community of businesses that are excited about Lead, excited by what’s happening here and interested in trying new things and seeing how they stick to the wall! We don’t always get it right, but we’re moving forward and making decisions.
