Welcome Summer!

Good Morning!

Wow! Isn’t this summer weather just crazy? I’m loving it!! Also crazy that Memorial Day seems to have snuck up on everyone! The official opening weekend of summer is upon us!

It remains a weird time in tourism, business and our lives. But weird times are full of new things: new friendships, new discoveries, new choices. I’ve connected with all kinds of people I wouldn’t have connected with otherwise. Some of my friends are finally starting their own businesses like they’ve always dreamed about, and other people I know are considering other big life changes. Many of us are finding ways to expand our offerings or improve business services in ways that will become permanent.

What have you discovered during this time? I would love to hear!

______Here’s what’s happening around Lead ____

Friday, 5/22 10am – Our Feeding Lead program will be changing just a bit this week. Feeding South Dakota will be here distributing their boxes along with a box of fresh produce. The Chamber will be distributing eggs, bread and milk.

Johns & Kosel is hiring a legal secretary – see all the details here: business.leadmethere.org/jobs

Fish ‘n Fry Campground and Cafe is open for the season! The cafe is open from 7:30am-6pm so even if you aren’t camping you can go still enjoy some stay-cation fun. (605)578-2150 for more details.

Whitetail Creek Resort is opening this weekend as well for their season. If you’re looking for a venue for a meet up check out their beer patio/tent as an event option this summer. Right next to the creek it’s a pretty neat space!

Northern Hills Recreation Association is having their annual MUD DAYS at Recreational Springs Resort on Jun 13 and 14. Mark your calendars! See Facebook for event details.

The Deadwood History Inc museums will open on Monday, June 1st! This includes The Adams Museum, The Adams House Museum and The Days of ’76 Museum. Their programming (including the kids camps) has been canceled through June, but stay tuned for events outside in July.

Lead Beautification is planting flowers around town!! If you can come help they would LOVE to get some more assistance. They’ll meet on Tuesday, June 2nd at 9am here in the Visitor Center parking lot. Please bring your own gloves and tools. The hope is with enough help they can get all the flowers planted that day.

As discussed in last week’s email – the 4th of July celebration Gold Camp Jubilee has been postponed this year, which includes the fireworks. Like every decision in life there are many pros and cons but at the end of the day the people have spoken and it was decided. We’re hoping to celebrate over Labor Day weekend – stay tuned!

The Handley Center had taken over planning and executing the Lead Live events as of last summer, and they chose to cancel the June Lead Live and are still pending more information regarding the July and August events. They will make that decision in the coming months.

Sanford Underground Research Facility is prepping for a virtual Neutrino Day festival this year the theme is “A Matter Mystery”! It will be a week long event from Monday, July 6th – Saturday, July 11th “Scattered throughout the week, science comedian Brian Malow will host discussions with scientists, investigating notorious matter mysteries—from the very beginning of matter to how our vast universe will one day end—with neutrinos and dark matter in between.
