Pah-sties or Pay-sties

Happy Thursday!

I’m kind of a history nerd, so one of my favorite parts of the 4th of July weekend was Plains Speaking People show at the Homestake Opera House. Six people got up and talked about a memory of working at Homestake, or how Homestake shaped their lives. It was an amazing evening remembering our history and hearing people’s stories. Karen Everett told about the time a guy tried to steal ten million dollars from the mine in a title land transfer deal. My mom told about the summer she shoveled rock and made what felt like a million dollars. We heard about pranks in the dry room, the beauty of our geology, the first boy cheerleader in Lead, exciting mine rescues, the importance of calling them pah-sties instead of pay-sties, and many other great tidbits. They did record it so if you missed this presentation you can go back and watch when it posts (hopefully soon) https://plainsspeakingpeople.com/

Happening around town:

Today, Thursday 7/11, 3pm – Pie Social, more pie from Susan Anderson (she used to run a pie cafe in Montana and her crust is to die for!) If you have an instrument bring it down and jam with us. Or just come enjoy some pie and listen. We always have a lot of fun!

Saturday, 7/13 – Neutrino Day, hosted by the Lab. A science day all over Lead, fun times for the whole family. You can see a schedule of events here: https://www.sanfordlab.org/neutrinoday

Monday, 7/15, 5pm City Commission meeting at City Hall. Attending is a great way to take ownership of the place where we live. Come down sometime and join us, it’s pretty great!

6pm – Monday Madness Summer Rec continues in the Manuel Brother’s Park with the Handley Recreation Center. All ages welcome, different sport each week. $5 for non members and free to members. Only a few weeks left!

Tuesday, 7/16, 5pm – Create and Cultivate with Jeff Christians. We’re trying a new time and date for these get togethers! Come enjoy a happy hour drink on us and a snack as Jeff talks about building and maintaining awesome teams!

And when that’s done at 6pm stay for LEAD LIVE! in Manuel Brother’s Park! July’s party is health and wellness focused thanks to Regional Health’s support. Vendors, music, beer, fun!

Save the date for next Thursday, 7/18 for our July mixer at Aspire Boutique! It’s going to be lots of fun!

Other Stuff:
Jenny wants us to start considering Christmas (good grief, summer hasn’t even shown up and we’re starting to think about winter again?!) On the other hand it’ll be here whether we like it or not… Plunder Bling has great customizable ornaments for only $16 (which would make great gifts at any time). Check out more here: www.plunderdesign.com/jennymarehart/ or call her 605-645-3207

I hope you all are having a great week – and enjoying whatever we get of this summer month!
